Casa Cabeço located in Santana, Madeira, Portugal, was completed in 2011 by MSB arquitectos.  Even though the ground seems inappropriate for the building, this was an advantage of which they profited, refusing to shape the land due to the retaining walls.

Because the plot didn’t allow much exposure to the sun because of the north facing, the building had to be as above as possible so it could receive sunlight coming from the south.

The house is divided into three volumes. The first volume houses the garage, the entrance hall and a kitchen with laundry and bathroom and the second one is excavated into the terrain consisting of bedrooms and toilet facilities.

Though it’s a house that managed to behave concerning the difficult terrain it has some issues with the sunlight due to its north orientation.
