Why should you restore windows?

Historic window restoration can cost up to $400 in materials and if you choose to get a professional to do the work, this could be another $400 per window. This can be out of most homeowner’s budgets, but there are loans for people with bad credit if you need extra financial help. Replacing windows is not always the best solution as new windows will only last about 25 years before you would need to replace yet again. However, if you choose to restore old windows, maintain them well and take good care of them, they can last another 100 years.

One of the most obvious reasons to consider window repair in Las Vegas, as opposed to replacing the window, is to keep the original structure of the home. Most homeowners fear that changing a window altogether will change its architecture. This may be due to the fact that newer windows look different, even newer wood has a different look. There are people who don’t want to replace windows because they feel it is a waste of money and don’t want to spend that extra money.

Repair vs replace

If you are big on originality the you should keep your windows, rather repair them, provided this is possible. However, if this type of thing means nothing to you and you feel like you need a change then consider replacing the window to something more modern.

Regarding wood windows, older wood is stronger and also dipped in a solution to protect it from rotting and bugs. Sometimes, when you think about the effort put into making that window, it just makes better sense to restore it and keep its originality. Even if your window has leaks or other issues, they can easily be fixed. In many homes where there are issues with the old windows, people choose to install a storm window as part of a working solution.

Depending on the products used and the extent of the damages to your windows, the cost of restoring it will vary. However, determine first whether it is best to replace or restore by doing a few inspections yourself. If the window has to be replaced then that is what you should do, but if it can be restored then ask yourself whether you find more value in original architecture or whether you prefer a modern look. Either way, with whatever you choose, the cost is significantly lower when you choose to do it yourself.
