The Saavedra House in Retamar, Almería, Spain was completed in 2009 by Juan Alberto Morillas Martín + Francisco Salvador Granados.
Although they had planning permission for 1 story at ground level, the owners wanted to build double the permitted area and they managed to realize that by excavating a large patio one full storey high over which a round and simple volume was planted.
The basement was transformed into an open living space facing the excavated patio.
At first it was a matter of space but then turned into a materialized wish.
