Spring has sprung; for many, it’s a time to rejoice. After being cooped up in the house all winter, the temperatures are ripe for outdoor adventures and activities. Although a bit of fun in the sun will do the mind and body good, taking care of tasks like cleaning your home is essential. The accumulation of clutter, dirt, dander, germs, bacteria, dust, and other allergens can wreak havoc on your well-being and create the perfect environment for pests.

Spring cleaning may not be your idea of fun, but it’s essential to sustaining optimal health and wellness. However, there’s more to a whole-house clean than meets the eye. While most remember the basics like clearing clutter, cleaning the floors, washing windows, and disinfecting hard surfaces, they often forget tasks like those listed below.

Dusting The Less-Obvious

Dusting your tables, lamps, bookshelves, pictures, and knick-knacks may be routine, but what about those less-visible spaces? Some of the most missed areas include the window and door frames, blinds, ceiling fans, and other light fixtures. Using a duster with a long handle can ensure you can get those hard-to-reach spots instantly. Then, use a stool to wash the areas with soap and water to get rid of any residue.

Cleaning Cabinets & Drawers

If you were to remove the food, dishes, utensils, and other items from your cabinets and drawers, you’d likely be surprised at what you find. Crumbs, dirt, hair, dead skin cells, grease, and other spilled liquids can create a mess inside your storage spaces.

Eliminate this problem by removing everything and deep cleaning your cabinets and drawers. Allow the space to dry completely before returning your belongings. If the springtime often brings pests, you should seal cracks and line your cabinets and drawers with a safe solution like plant-based pesticides.

Servicing Household Appliances

Wiping down the stove, cleaning the fridge, and changing the air filters are essential everyday spring cleaning tasks. While your appliances may appear clean on the surface, other working parts must be considered.

Did you know that a drip pan underneath the fridge collects water, which could attract pests? Not to mention the crumbs, grease, and other debris hiding under the stove or fridge. Believe it or not, even dust can accumulate on refrigerator coils, the backs of stoves, in the dryer, and throughout your heating and cooling system.

If handling these tasks yourself is more than you’re willing to take on, you can always contact a professional. For instance, when scheduling an air conditioning repair in Las Vegas (or another location), ask the contractor if they can dust the coils, lubricate mechanical parts, and clean the ventilation system to ensure you have cool and healthy air throughout the spring and summer months. A general contractor or handyperson can assist with appliances such as your stove, refrigerator, washing machine, and dryer.

Steaming & Vacuuming Furniture, Linens, & Upholsteries

Dust, food particles, pests, dirt, germs, bacteria, pet hair, and other objects collect in the fibers, nooks, and crannies of your furniture, linens, and upholsteries. Wash and dry your throw pillows, blankets, and curtains. Next, vacuum the crevices in your furniture.

Finish up with a steam cleaner allowing your furniture to dry before returning the cushions and pillows. You may need to use the steamer more than once if it’s been a while to ensure you remove all the dirt.

Care For Your Pets

Your furry friends carry allergens and pets that can infiltrate your home and put everyone at risk. Now is an excellent time to wash all your pet’s belongings, including their bedding, toys, and food bowls. It would be best to consider bathing your dog and taking them to the vet or grooming service to clip their nails, trim their hair, and update flea and tick treatments.
