Named after one of the world’s most beautiful flowers, Rose is a lovely modern home that is located in Palm Springs, California, USA. Its owner purchased it from an elderly woman and decided that it was high time for an extensive renovation process. He chose H3K Design as the firm that would perform this upgrade, and we have to admit that the end result is nothing short of breathtaking.

The primary modifications were focused on the kitchen, master bathroom, master bedroom, and also the backyard. The kitchen was upgraded with brand new cabinets and Cambria counters complemented by Viking appliances. In the master bathroom, the hot tub was moved underneath a large window so that the owner could feast his eyes on fabulous views of the mountains while he is enjoying a relaxing bath. The master bedroom has received clerestory windows that allow the vaulted ceilings to stand out.

Outside, there is a fire pit close to the master bedroom, while the backyard incorporates a bar and a barbecue area. There’s also a swimming pool and a lounging area that can be used for relaxation and socialization purposes.

From the architect:

The previous owner had decided at the age of 93 she had enjoyed her time in Palm Springs but was ready to move back to Los Angeles. The new owner, our client, saw the potential in the house and called us before close of escrow to start developing the design plan. Again, with most Alexanders and houses of the time, the kitchen was compartmentalized. Very much a service kitchen. The master bathroom had limitations and was in desperate need of an update. The house had been over decorated in the early 1970s (the ‘before’ pictures will speak from themselves). On the other hand the backyard and pool area were very barren and lacked any character.

The client saw this as a second or vacation home so we sat down with him to design a dream Palm Springs getaway. Installing all new surfaces though out the house was an instant decision and opening the kitchen for a more modern floor plan was as well. New kitchen cabinets with Cambria counters and Viking appliances really meet today’s standards for such an upscale home. All the bathrooms were completely updated with new tile, vanities and fixtures but the master bathroom was the biggest transformation with incorporation of a walk-in shower and a free standing tub. We retained the large window in the master bath and placed the tub in front of it to take advantage of the sweeping mountain views. We also added clerestory windows in the master bedroom to exaggerate the vaulted ceilings. The furnishings in the house were meant to be a mix of vintage, contemporary and modern to create the ultimate Palm Spring chic getaway.

In the backyard, we created an outdoor BBQ and bar to be the center of any future pool party. A fire pit was added outside the master bedroom – – nicely divided off from the rest of the yard by towering palm trees. We added deck jets to the pool to give an instant on demand water feature in the backyard. While in the front yard, we created a gentle stone water feature to welcome guests as they arrive to the house.

The client was very, very pleased with the finished house and was happy he hired H3K Design to make it a reality.
