Art Collector House located in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts is a house built around an art collection, a single family residence of approximately 4,600 square-feet. It was built for an art collector by Burr and McCallum Architects and is a really efficient home due to the fact that it comprises triple glazed windows, insulated walls and ceilings and geothermal heating and cooling.
Because the owners required space, the house needed to be shaped as a rectangular box with large windows, which lead to creating room for the paintings, small gallery spaces and the necessary separation between the private and public areas.
The exterior walls were shaped as rectangles in three distinct colors and textures: the windows, the red painted panels and the slate roofing tiles. The rest of the house is dark grey and when it’s seen from a distance it seems like blending with its surroundings.
