Situated in Little Bay, Sydney, Australia, the Benelong Murra Murra Residence was completed in 2009 by Luigi Rosselli Architects studio.
The two-story residence was designed according to the owner’s requests, keeping it as simple as possible. The open living area resembles a platform oriented towards the beautiful view, while the service area is located at the opposite side of the house, in order to separate the work and play spaces.
The garage, bedrooms and laundry are situated at the lower level, which is connected to the garden. There are no family or breakfast rooms, not even a pool, which would have cluttered the house. The residence has, besides the simple architecture, some very interesting sustainable features such as: concrete thermal mass, passive solar planning, retractable awnings and venetians to control direct solar gain, double glazing, window placement that captures the cool breezes, wall and roof insulation, 2MW photovoltaic cells to produce electricity, gas heating and solar hot water, and a 25000-liter basin to store rainwater. The materials used for this house are also sustainable, as the concrete, timber and sandstone do not degrade easily and develop their time patina.
