The Pierre was designed by Olson Kundig Architects and it is located on a rocky hillside on the San Juan Island in Washington, being completely immersed into its surrounding environment. What makes this residence truly remarkable is that it is made out of stone. The building process was difficult and required hard work, as the contractor drilled and excavated through a large block of stone in order to finally create this incredible architectural masterpiece.

The house features a single level, featuring dining and living accommodations as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The indoor and outdoor spaces are connected through a wood clad storage area that hides the kitchen storage and the laundry area behind two bookcases. The master suite is beautifully appointed featuring floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a comfortable bed with a leather footboard and headboard.

The interiors were designed by Olson Kundig Architects following the owner’s specifications. High-end furnishings contrast beautifully with the encroaching rock, while stone-carved fireplaces add a sense of warmth and safety.
