At the moment, we all need to escape the harsh reality of the lockdown and find a way to relax. For some, it may be spending time with their children or watching their favourite tv programme but for many, however, spending time outside in their garden or on their balcony is the perfect way to find peace. If your outdoor space is a bit restricted by its size, there are ways to make it as comfortable and relaxing as any big garden out there. Here are three tips that could help you make the most of your balcony.
Soft furniture
Upgrading your balcony with great furniture doesn’t have to be a headache. For example, outdoor cushions and beanbags are really trendy right now, they’re normally a bit cheaper than a lounger or a hammock but super comfortable and inviting thanks to their squishy texture. They’re also great because of their versatility and weight, you can easily fit one in your balcony, they’re perfect for relaxing on a sunny afternoon with a nice cold drink, they’ll hug you and make you fall asleep in an instant.
Lights
Adding some lights to your outdoor space could completely transform its atmosphere. You could simply opt for some classic fairy lights for a cute touch, they’re quite cheap and easy to find. However, if you want to add an urban and original addition to your space, you could choose to buy some vintage festoon lights or even some lanterns. Lights are definitely a must for any size balcony, they’ll add that little touch of magic that makes an outdoor space special.
Greenery
Balconies are nice. However you may be lacking in grass, trees and plants but don’t worry there is no reason why you can’t add some nature to your outdoor space. For example, you could install a tiered plant stand, they’re great because they allow you to have multiple plants in a very limited space. Plant stands are nice because they don’t take much floor space, are easy to water and look lovely from the outside. However, always keep in mind that plants, containers and compost can be pretty heavy so make sure that your balcony can handle it.
Table and rug
Treating your balcony like your living room seems to be a growing trend in the exterior design industry. Adding some cosy indoor touches to your balcony could actually make you want to spend more time outside than inside. You could put a nice thick rug (don’t forget to bring it inside when it rains though) and a coffee table, by doing this you’re also creating a nice social place in your home to hang out with your friends and family.
Having a balcony doesn’t mean you can’t create your dream garden, there are ways you can make it as relaxing and inviting as ever. However, don’t forget to check what you can and cannot do, especially if you are currently renting.
