The owners of the Apartment House in Singapore wanted a residence whose scale and organization could allow an extended family to live together comfortably . The brief included different desires and preferences from each member of the family, and the result was a contemporary home organized in two linear volumes. These volumes are separated in the middle by a common pool, but they find each other again on the upper levels.

Being a home for different generations and sub-families, it had to be built in a very unique way, to ensure privacy for each individual, while also facilitating communication in key areas, such as the main living space. The owners also wanted a residence that would permit easy reconfigurations and alterations, so the architects – Formwerkz Architects, a Singapore-based studio – designed the Apartment House in a manner that allows multiple future modifications. They finished it in 2009.
